The Cinque Terre (pronounced CHEEN-kweh TEHR-reh) is the name given to five small villages along the eastern Ligurian coast of Italy. Cinque means "five", terre means "lands": Five Lands. The train is the best way to visit the Cinque Terre since very few roads reach the villages due to the mountains. The train tickets are time stamped so you can get on/off the train many times to see the coastal villages. Scenic hiking trails run along the coast connecting each of the five towns.
